Ayden had gone out to the garage behind the house to work on his motorcycle. Tinkering helped him think and put things into perspective.
That was always his goal when he came out here, but that didnât mean it worked every time. He was still trying to figure out how to handle the whole Oric situation. Of course Ayden wanted the brother dead, but he couldnât outright kill him.
That would be coldblooded murder, and although Oric was interfering with a mating, Ayden also didnât want to suffer any consequences with the Ultionem from tracking that bastard down and ending him.
Would there be any repercussions? Would Fynn hate him for killing Oric? No matter what his mate said, Oric was still family, and Ayden didnât want Fynn hating him for ending the prickâs life.
Then there were the parents. Would they retaliate? Would they demand justice for Oricâs death?
âDo you care?â Ayden growled to himself. âNo matter what, youâre ending that psychoâs life.â
Ayden always prided himself on doing the right thing. He liked to follow the letter of their laws, but this was different. This matter involved his mate, and Ayden would do whatever he had to in order to ensure Fynnâs safety.
âTalking to yourself?â Cisco asked as he and Nixon strolled into the garage. âThey say thatâs the first sign youâre losing it.â
âIâm pretty sure itâs answering yourself thatâs the first sign,â Nixon corrected as he took a seat on one of the stools by the workbench. âYou havenât started doing that, have you?â
âOnly in my head.â Ayden tossed the shop rag at the workbench. âWhat do you two want?â
âCanât we just chill and catch up?â Cisco turned a chair around, straddling it, resting his arms on the back of it. âYouâve been so busy with Fynn lately. Weâre just seeing how things are going.â
Ayden eyed them. His pack was made of warriors, brothers not by blood but by bond. They would fight at his back any day of the week, but getting in touch with emotions wasnât something they did.
âWhat do you guys really want?â
âWe just heard from a little blond birdie, who heard from a big wolf, that you might be going on a mission soon, and weâre volunteering to help.â
Fucking Gem. Although Ayden liked the human, and had started to care about him, the guy had a big mouth. But he wouldnât have known a damn thing if Grey hadnât told him. âSo you guys have turned into the gossip mill around here?â
Cisco pressed his hands against his chest, looking wide-eyed at Ayden. âMe? Iâll have you know that Iâve never gossiped a day in my life.â
Nixon rolled his eyes.
âTell that to someone who doesnât know you so well.â Ayden went to the fridge in the corner and pulled out several bottled beers, tossing each of the men one before he cracked his own open. Preternatural beings couldnât get drunk off of human alcohol, but who didnât love the taste of a cold brew on such a warm night?
The cold liquid tasted good on his parched throat, which only made him think of Fynn.
